The Slow Worm. Nick Baker shows us his latest find - an amazing slow worm. Variety of habitats with a preference for high levels of ground.
Sexual dimorphism is observed in this species. Slow worms are often mistaken for snakes. Spending vast amounts of their time hidden away in burrows or amongst leaf litter these Lizards are not often seen they are diurnal in nature.
Two slithery creatures I spotted in the same week.
An adult slow worm will measure 30-50cm 12-20in long with an average weight of 20-100g 07-352oz. The only other member of the family the Peloponnese slow worm Anguis cephalonnica is endemic to parts of Greece. Slow worms are carnivores which feed on invertebrates. I made this same mistake myself when I first found one.
